Well last weekend was the last race meeting of the year for me and it was the last round of the British championship at Scunthorpe speedway…

I was looking forward to this meeting as I do like Scunny as it is quite a tricky little track with a few different lines. Practice was good with lots of lines to go at… my 1st heat I had a few good riders with Pete boast I was front row and made a cracking start and lead from start to finish…

After my good start my Day went downhill my bike die on the front of the semi and I got taken out big time and the race was stop I was in the re-run and had to start 25metres from behind last place and I had to battle through the pain and through the pack to grab the last spot into the final…

So I was in a lot of pain on the back row for the final and yet again my bike died again so I had a lot a lot of catching up to do and soon found out I had made the wrong tyre choice as well for the Final…I battled on and caught up but once I got up2 9th I had ran out of time…

Hello all

1St of all I would like to give my deepest sympathies to Ben Lightowler family and friends. Ben sadly passed away on Sunday evening as a result of injuries he sustained during an accident at Brands Hatch… Ben was such a nice guy and was very talented rider. And it’s sad to lose another good local rider this year…

Well two weeks was the European final and to be honest I don’t think I could have had more bad luck if I tried… 2 laps in to practice and I blew my best bike up… my 1st race I had a good start and was 3rd for a while before I was taken out by a French rider and dropped to 5th…. Then race two I made a truly crap start and got taken out to the pegs and was disqualified… so my 3rd heat I was battling away only to get the put down on me and I ended up crashing out… my last ride I got a 4th..

I just managed enough points to grab a place in the B-final and we managed to get rid of a few problems for the final and I made a cracking start but I couldn’t hold for the length of the final and just missed out on making the A-final… so I came away with 9th overall in the F.I.M European Shorttack finals….

This weekend just gone I was riding at Pickering with having a free weekend and was good to go back to race where I 1st started as a youngster… I came away with 2* 1st and 2*2nds which was cool I as I was just going for some fun and also I passenger for a sidecar too which was really good fun too.

Well after what seems a life-time I’ve got a few updates. I’ve been to Holland to race at Eenrum in the Mefo cup… it was a great meeting over there with a big Crowd there to watch us as well. The track had so much grip which was a surprise as it was a grass track and not a shale based track. I had some good races with a 2nd and 3rd in my heats and had bad 8th. But it got me a front row start in the final… I got a gate and was 3rd out of turn, but soon it was clear I had the wrong set up in the final as I started to drop back, and when I was in 6th place I had a coming together with a rider and crashed out half down the straight, I got back and still finished though. I still really enjoyed the meeting though as it’s always a great atmosphere in Holland…

Next was the 4th round of the British championship at Buxton. I don’t know really where to start as I really don’t like this place at all as it is so small and trying to race with 12 other riders isn’t really that good as you have to force your way past a slower rider. I managed a 2nd in my 1st heat with a back row start and had to squeeze my way past Pete boast to grab the last slot, So I went straight to the semi’s, and just before the semi, the rain start and made the track very slick and very much a lottery. I got caught up in the rain and only just made the final with a 5th place in the semi. So I was back row in the final, I knew I had to go for it from the start I made I good start and started bar bashing from turn1 as that was the only way to pass on this 230metre oval compared to the week before in Holland on a 600metre oval… I had a great battle with victor bull and managed to pass him round the outside and caught up with Tim and Pete but no way to pass as it was so hard…

Cheers

Hello all…. Well after a few busy weeks I’ve got round to updating. 1st was the des nations in Germany. It was the 1st time I’ve been here and the track was amazing for my riding style, nice and big with plenty of dirt to put the bike anywhere, I got 2nds all day and 2nd in the final and with Pete and Tim we won the event overall, it has to be one of the best tracks I’ve ridden on…

Next was round 3 of the shorttrack championships at Redcar, it was a wet and damp and to be honest I didn’t feel the grove all day. I got a 2nd in my 1st heat and went straight to the semi where the rain got worse and I got caught out while battling with Marco and went down and had to go to the LCQ. So I made a good start in the lcq and was 4th and there was too much battling going on up top so I drop low to a tight line and managed to get a groove and pull a win off. So for the final I was back row and the heavens opened, so I just thought I’ve just got to stick to my pace and see how I roll, off the start I had to push hard in the 1st few laps and few I stuck to the inside and started picking riders off and by the end I got a good 2nd place. I was quite happy with it as I’ve closed in on Pete in the championship…..

Last week I was in the Czech Republic for the 3rd round of the MEFO cup. It was another 1000metre…for me though it wasn’t as good an oval as the German track as it was very hard packed. I made it hard for my self all day by making bad starts…and my 1st heats was the worst where I was 8th into 1turn one, but I was hard and pulled a 2nd place out of the bag and carried on with 2nd places for the rest of the day. And 2nd in the final, But I couldn’t touch jan-willem he was just on it.

Now I have to have a look and see what next due to the recent cancelled uk rounds… I’m looking at doing some local and maybe Dutch events. Cheers Steve

Hello everyone sorry for the long delay in updating. So last weekend was the 2nd round of the British championship in Wales at Amman valley which is a half mile oval. And one of my best tracks normally. Practice went ok, I was fast but I was very unhappy with the set-up, but we kept changing and we were getting closer with the set-up. My 1st heat was a hard win as Glyn took a lot of hard riding to pass him and make 1st place my own. After that I was straight through to the semis. After a good start this is where my night went down hill. I was on pole for the semi and was all geared up. The flag went and I dropped the clutch and the bike just died. I grabbed clutch and the starter button and I was off I had all ready lost 50 yards by this point. So I headed straight for the wide line going into turn 1 and had it nailed but just as I was half way round two riders crashed right in front of me and I head to take action and head for the fence to miss them, by now I was dead last and a good 100yards off the guy in front of me, and the next 8laps was I very hard ride and had to work the wide line. I had my ride of the evening for me coming from dead last to 3rd, to put me on the 2nd row for the final. By now I was really revved up and yet again bad luck struck. On my warm up lap my steel shoe came off. And I had little time to get it back in and had to tie wrap it on. This does not make you feel great when a 12 lap final in front of you have. So the flag went and the final was under way. I made a ok start and was into 5th by turn one and powered my way round into 4th behind Glyn and 2 laps later I was past Glyn by this point Marco and Pete were well gone. I manage to pull Pete in a little but was to far away to make edge on him.

So despite my poor evening for me I haven’t lost out, with Marco and Pete tied for 1st in the championship. I’m looking towards the next round already at South tees motorpark.

I would also like to thank spa cycles for sponsoring me with a Ambrosio Celcius Team Carbon bike for training on. My next event is 29th June in Germany for the des nations.

stolen bike
bad news is that Ben Wells who rides 11r had his bike stolen out the back of his van in the early hours of this morning. Ben is asking for Shorttrackers to be on the look out for any parts or the complete bike coming up for sale. It is an RMZ 450 with fazer forks fitted, lowered rear shock with a unique linkage and of course 19 wheels and tyres. The bike was taken from the Hull area.If you hear of anything then please contact Ben on 07507555004

Hello Everyone

Well where do, I start after such a great weekend. Well Saturday was the best day for me I think racing wise as the track was nice and damp and there were plenty of lines to choose from with the wide line being used more often than not and was such a joy to ride a track with so many lines to choose from. And it was just so much fun to stick it near the fence. The heats went really well with 4 wins from 4 rides and to be honest the bike was working so well in the damp I didn’t feel like I had to work hard at all.

Sunday was a very different track, the weather had changed. It was sunny and the track had dry out and made the dirt like marbles and was so polished it made the track just one line. Which was a shame for the crowd as the racing was not as good as Saturday. So it made my semi so important to get a good start and I didn’t get one, I got into turn one was 2nd/3rd and had to pass Glyn which was no easy thing as he so good on a tight line. But I kept working the bike hard and got the drive up the inside and made the pass. And pulled a small gap out and rode to the line for the win.
So Then it all came down to the final, it was only me and Marco belli who had won every heat and semi over the whole weekend. I knew the start would be the win or loss of this race. I just sat back and waited for the flag, and as soon as the starter moved the flag I dropped the clutch and let rip and leaned back and the bike just drove and didn’t even spin, I knew the start would look like a jump as it was one of the best starts I ever made as the bike just launched it self towards turn one and just pulled. I got the holeshot into turn one and lead from there with Aidan Collins close behind me but after a few hard laps in I pulled a gap and just stuck to the tight single line and made the bike work hard and carried on to win the 18lap final.

I’m working hard now over the next few weeks in time for the next round in Wales. And I hope to have some new parts on the bike.
Cheers Steve

Hello Everyone

1st thing I would like to say is thanks to everyone that made to tom’s funeral and paid there respects.
Well last night was the 1st round of the British championship at King’s Lynn after such a hard week for me I had to really dig deep for this. This year’s bike is very different from last years and the more time I’m on it the more I’m getting into the grove with it. It was a very bitter bit night at kings Lynn and there was a very small blue grove. In my 1st heat I won and beat last year British champion on the works ccm and went straight into the semi final and I had gate 1 and got a bad start as there was a lot of dirt there and not a lot of drive off the gate so once I got into the grove I climbed into 2nd and ran out of time to make a move for 1st.

So for the final I had last pick on the front row and I got gate 1 again!!! So I did best I could and got a decent start and was 3rd into turn one with Pete boast and Marco Belli in front so I took in behind Marco and even ran into him mid turn as I tried a pass up the inside, but got the door well shut on me, so with there only been one line and 4th place being along way back, I decide to stick tight and see if Marco makes a mistake, and we were like a train for 12laps. So I’m really happy to finish 3rd and I would like to dedicate this result to tom as he was a great friend and rider that I’ll never forget.

Would like to thank my entire sponsor for there help and support to me over this difficult time.
Thank you speak soon Steve

Last Saturday night was the last round of the short track u.k championship at Mildenhall.

I had a amazing night. I won 2 heats and a 2nd semi was so great as I started on the inside of the front row. But there was a lot of dirt there so didn’t get the bike off the line. I battle back and got a 4th and 2nd row for final.

In the final I had inside again on 2nd row but there was a lot less dirt and made a great start and was slipped into 4th place behind Pete boast which great as that way I would finish 2nd overall in championship.. So I rode with my head and brought it home just behind Pete, So I had a 4th on the night and 2nd overall in the championship.

Its a great end to my season with being 9th in Europe and 2nd in the u.k and being the highest placed brit in both championships. I would like to say a big thank you to my sponsors and my friends and family who have all supported me this year.

THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE... Steve

Just had my 5th round of the british championship last night.

It was a damp meeting which was a shame as it was a great track. I had a 1st,2nd and 3rd in my heats which gave me a front row start for the final.

I got the holeshot twice in a final that was rerun due to other riders crashing!! Who said it was a fluke!?!?

I'm happyish with my third but think i should of had a 2nd. Its all good points though!!

I'm getting prepared already as next week i leave for the euro championship. So hopefully il do well again.

Well it was a long drive there and back, but I made it worth it, with a 2nd overall in the final .I had 3 good heats with two 2nds and a win in my third ,I was on the front row and I lead start to finish. And felt I was in good form for the final. In the final I got a flyer and had a great lead after one lap. But then it was red flagged due a big crash, I was totally gutted as I had a awesome lead, In the rerun I had a great start but not as good, and drop to 3rd but 2nd to last lap I lined up some good drive and nipped up the inside and pulled away, I really loved the half mile this weekend and this type of tracks are more my thing rather than us pottering about on a small speedway track, hopefully in the future we ride more tracks like this as far a lot more exciting to watch. But that’s it for now. Thanks Steve
